Wennington Hall is a Grade II listed, three-storey Tudor-style manor in the Lune Valley near Lancaster — hidden from view for seventy years as a school, then bought from Lancashire County Council after it closed in 2022 and restored by the James' Places team behind Holmes Mill. Gothic arched windows, towers, turrets and spiral staircases survive throughout. The Garden Room is the main ceremony and reception space, seating 140 and opening onto a terrace with planters and feature lighting, with evenings running to 250; the outdoor Wedding Pavilion sits between the gardens and the castellations of the courtyard with the Lune Valley in view; and the hall is licensed for civil ceremonies inside and out. Exclusive use covers the main building, the terrace and more than seventeen acres of gardens, with twenty-two boutique bedrooms — nineteen of them taken by the wedding party at every wedding, so each one is a full house-party. It has already taken Highly Commended for Heritage/Historic venue at the Great Northern Wedding Awards 2026.

The Garden Room seats 140 and holds 250 by the evening — a hundred more people than sat down, walking into a room they have never seen. That jump is what we set for: the room as it will be at nine o'clock, with the red carpet along a wall so the queue never crosses the dance floor, and the mirror placed so the queue drifts toward the terrace lighting rather than across the doorway. It needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket.

The Wedding Pavilion, framed by the gardens on one side and the castellations on the other, is a photographer's spot rather than a mirror's — and the reason a half day here should start before the ceremony rather than after it. Towers, turrets, spiral staircases and seventeen acres give a photographer range that most venues simply do not have.

Because everybody stays — nineteen of the twenty-two bedrooms go to the wedding party — the night runs late on site, which is exactly what a six-hour mirror hire is for, and the audio guest book's recordings get played back over breakfast. The Lune Valley also sits well clear of controlled airspace, so aerial film of a castellated manor in its gardens is about as straightforward, and as worthwhile, as it gets.
