Victoria Warehouse on Trafford Wharf Road was begun in the 1920s for the Liverpool Warehousing Company and finished in 1932 to hold cotton, fabric and confectionery; The Bays are still named for the numbered bay stations where Kellogg's, McVitie's and Cadbury's packed goods in the eighties, and several of those brands have since come back as clients. The Cotton Sheds are the headline: Shed A alone is 1,185 square metres of pillar-free floor with ceilings from 6.4 to 8 metres and drive-in access through the entire ground floor, which is why car launches happen in it. The Bays has a feature bar and colour-changing down-lighters on its pillars; the Tobacco Stores has floor-to-ceiling windows over Old Trafford and twenty giant projector screens. The venue has been licensed for civil ceremonies since August 2015, registered with Trafford Council, and hosts more than fifty weddings a year. Parking on site is free.

Shed A is the one that catches suppliers out. A single mirror simply disappears in 1,185 square metres, which is why we quote two units for it as standard, set at opposite ends so a queue never forms across the floor. The mirror itself needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket, nothing more.

Drive-in access through the entire ground floor is the thing suppliers here take for granted and everyone else envies: we are in, built and out without a single trolley run, which keeps us out of your production crew's way entirely. The Bays is where a mirror earns its keep, with a feature bar leading into it and colour-changing down-lighters already on the pillars, so the kit reads as part of the room rather than parked in it.

For an awards night the pod beats the mirror — a five-foot square by the drinks reception catches people between the arrival and the sit-down, which is the only window they actually have. The Tobacco Stores, with its windows over Old Trafford, is the best natural light in the building and the reason to put a photographer in it early rather than waiting for the room to go dark. The audio guest book is an unusual thing at a corporate night and it works, collecting what people actually thought instead of another feedback form nobody fills in.

Trafford sits well outside every flight restriction zone, so aerial film here is a matter of planning the launch point and the timing rather than asking permission — and the warehouse from above with the ship canal and Old Trafford behind it is a genuinely distinctive shot for a brand film.
