The Imperial Hotel

The Imperial Hotel, Blackpool, The Imperial Hotel, Lancashire, FY1 2HB

✓ We’ve worked at this venue before

The Imperial Hotel has stood on Blackpool's North Promenade since 1867, a Grade II listed seafront hotel with 180 bedrooms, a tram stop directly outside and the Tower and the Winter Gardens ten minutes' walk away. Its wedding rooms are the Washington Suite — added in 1901, with an arched ceiling that was once glass, seating 75 by day and holding 120 in the evening — and the Louis Room, which looks out over the seafront in gold and ivory beneath its chandeliers and hosts the ceremony, the wedding breakfast and the reception in the same room, turned around between each by the hotel's own team. The Lancastrian Suite takes the bigger nights, at 400 for a banquet or 340 for a dinner dance, and two further suites are licensed for weddings as small as twelve.

We know this hotel. We've worked The Imperial for both a wedding and a big themed party, so we already know the load-in off the promenade and how the light comes off the sea into the Louis Room.

A room that gets reset twice in a day is the thing worth planning around here. We set up once, out of the hotel team's way, and stay put through both turnarounds — which is the single most useful thing a supplier can do in the Louis Room. The mirror sits into the gold and ivory panelling rather than fighting it, and needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket, nothing more. In the Washington Suite, where the stage and the dance floor are already in the room, we set along a wall and run the red carpet to it so the queue never crosses the floor. For the Lancastrian and anything on that scale two units beat one — a mirror by the dance floor and a pod at the far end — so four hundred people are never all queueing in the same corner.

The pods are the better answer in the smaller licensed suites, taking a five-foot square and no red carpet at all. The audio guest book wants a quiet side table away from the band, where a vintage telephone tends to collect the messages that never get said into a microphone — and with 180 bedrooms in the building, most of your party is still here to hear them played back at breakfast.

The seafront is ten steps from the door and it is the reason to get our photographers outside: the promenade, the light off the water, and the building itself behind you. Aerial film needs planning here rather than a spur-of-the-moment decision, because the hotel sits inside Blackpool Airport's controlled airspace and the promenade is a public one — but it is very often workable, and we will tell you honestly whether it is on well before anything is paid for.

We've put together a free pack for couples and party organisers celebrating at The Imperial, downloadable below. It sizes every option to the rooms here, lays out the prices in full, and carries IMPERIAL5 — a venue-exclusive code that takes 5% off anything in it.
