Rookery Hall stands on Main Road at Worleston outside Nantwich, built in 1816 as The Rookery and turned into a small chateau by Baron William Von Schroder after he bought it in 1867 — his crest and coat of arms are still on the barrelled ceiling of the main dining room. It sits in thirty-eight acres of gardens and wooded parkland on the River Weaver, with a fountain and a lake the venue itself points couples to for photographs, and holds four AA Red Stars with sixty-nine bedrooms. Vows are said in the Wardle Suite, which takes 120, in the oak-panelled Morning Room with its sash windows and fireplace, which takes 30, or outdoors in the Garden Pavilion, licensed for 160 in its own private corner of the estate. The Worleston Suite carries the evening for up to 250 behind an original stone wall, with its own private bar and terrace, and the self-contained Nantwich Suite puts ceremony and party in one building a few steps from the house.

The Worleston having its own bar is the thing that decides where we stand: people queue where the drinks are, not by the door. We set the mirror near the bar with the red carpet running along a wall so the queue never crosses the dance floor, and it needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket, nothing more. Because the suite's soundproofed partitions can make it one room or two, we ask which way it is being set before suggesting a position — the answer changes everything.

The Nantwich Suite is the easiest setup we cover anywhere. With the ceremony and the party in one self-contained building, we build once in the morning and stay put all day without ever crossing your guests. The Morning Room is the opposite job: at thirty guests a mirror would swallow it, so the selfie pod is the right answer there — five foot square, no red carpet, and the panelling left as the backdrop rather than hidden.

The audio guest book wants a quiet side table away from the bar, where a vintage telephone collects the things nobody says into a microphone — and with sixty-nine bedrooms nobody is driving home, so those recordings get played back over breakfast. Between the Garden Pavilion, the fountain, the lake and thirty-eight acres, a photographer here genuinely needs the whole day rather than half of it.
