Owen House Wedding Barn sits on Small Lane at Mobberley, a family-run venue converted in 2013 on a hundred and fifty acres of working Cheshire farm and given over exclusively to one wedding at a time. The licensed ceremony room — reached, in their own words, through a secret door off the main barn — holds up to 150, the barn seats 200 for the wedding breakfast, and 250 are here by the evening. Ten bedrooms, four mezzanine bed-decks, the Birds and Bees bridal suite with its outdoor copper bath and the farmhouse mean the party stays put; guests book with a code you control.

We know this barn. We've worked a full day at Owen House, and came away with our biggest gallery from any barn venue anywhere.

The fifty-guest jump between the wedding breakfast and the evening is the thing worth planning around, because those fifty walk into a room they have never seen. We set the mirror for the room as it will be at nine o'clock rather than as it looks at four: along a wall with the red carpet leading to it, so the queue forms off the dance floor rather than across it. It needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket, nothing more. For a smaller or quieter day the selfie pod is the better fit, taking a five-foot square and no red carpet at all.

The Shooting Gallery — a separate barn fitted out as a photographic studio, with its vast white wall, star cloths, stepladders and churns — is the best room on the farm for our photographers, and an hour in there is worth three anywhere else. The Break Out Room next door carries a live feed of it on the screen, so guests here are already used to watching photography happen as entertainment. That room is also where the audio guest book belongs, on a side table where people can hear each other; the messages get played back over breakfast in the Tool Shed the next morning.

The Orchard, the Pond and the Jetty give our photographers real range without anyone leaving the farm. Aerial work here needs an honest answer rather than a sales one: Owen House sits inside Manchester Airport's flight restriction zone, so a flight needs air traffic control permission arranged in advance and is never guaranteed. We are CAA-licensed and will make that application for you, tell you straight if the answer is no, and refund the drone element in full if it cannot go ahead.
