Water Street, Liverpool, Liverpool City Region, L2 0RG

OH ME OH MY occupies the former banking hall of West Africa House at 25 Water Street, a 1920s building by Briggs, Wolstenholme and Thorley built for the Bank of West Africa and standing directly opposite Liverpool's Three Graces. The team behind LEAF opened it as an events venue in 2013. Above it, on the eighth floor, is Goodness Gracious — a roof garden with arguably the best view in the city, a stone's throw from the Liver Birds. It is entirely outdoors, so its opening is a weather call, and it is hired as an addition to the main venue rather than on its own. The accessible entrance is on Water Street, with the lift on the right-hand side.
We know this building. We ran two separate corporate Christmas parties here on the same night last December, so we already know which lift actually gets kit to the eighth floor and how quickly the banking hall fills once people are through the door.
Weddings here are reception-led — couples marry elsewhere and arrive — which genuinely changes the timings. Guests are celebrating from the first half hour rather than filing in for a ceremony, so we are built, tested and lit before the doors open, never setting up while people are milling about with a drink in hand.
The mirror belongs in the banking hall, set against the room's own architecture rather than under it, and it needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket, with the red carpet running along a wall so the queue never crosses the floor. For a corporate Christmas night the print pod does more work: five foot square, no red carpet, and a print in everybody's hand on the way out rather than a queue that eats the evening.
Goodness Gracious we treat as the backdrop rather than a kit position, because it is outdoors and the weather decides — the photographer goes up, the mirror stays down. Eight floors above Water Street with the Liver Birds behind you is the shot of the night either way. The audio guest book, meanwhile, is an unusual thing at a company party and it lands: a vintage telephone on a side table, collecting what people actually thought.
Water Street sits well outside Liverpool John Lennon's flight restriction zone, so aerial film here is a matter of planning the launch point and the timing rather than asking permission — and your building with the Three Graces beside it is about as Liverpool as a shot gets. We've put together a free event pack for couples and event organisers at OH ME OH MY, downloadable below — it sizes every option to the building, lays out the prices in full, and carries OHMEOHMY5, a venue-exclusive code that takes 5% off anything in it.
