Oddfellows On The Park occupies Bruntwood Hall, a Gothic Victorian mansion in 120 acres of parkland at Cheadle. The Galloping Major restaurant is the original ballroom — added by Major James Platt and whispered, in the hotel's own telling, to have cost almost as much as the hall itself. The hexagonal Parlor Bar mirrors the ceiling patterns and opens straight onto a terrace that sweeps 180 degrees around the hall, heated and parasoled for use all year; the Parlor Rooms keep their original dimensions with dividers to reshape them; and twenty-two individually designed bedrooms run up to a Tower Suite set over two levels in the tower itself. Three spaces are licensed for civil ceremonies, and there is only ever one wedding party a day.
We know this house. We've worked a wedding at Oddfellows On The Park, so we already know the drive through the park and how the Galloping Major feels once the tables go back in what was built as the ballroom.
The old ballroom is still the room built for dancing, and the mirror sits into its panelling with the red carpet along a wall, so the queue never crosses the floor. It needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket. Because the Parlor Rooms divide, the ceremony room and the evening room can be the same space or two — so we ask how the rooms are being set before we suggest a position, and we set for the room as it will be at nine o'clock.
The Parlor Bar's terrace door is where the evening actually flows, and a selfie pod just inside it catches everyone moving between the bar and the parkland without blocking either. The audio guest book belongs in the Stud Bar — small, quiet, with thistles carved into it for those who look — collecting the things nobody says into a microphone, played back over breakfast by a party that mostly stayed the night.
Two practical things we already know about working here: there are twelve parking spaces, so we arrive early, unload in one trip and move the van before guests' cars land; and the hotel asks every supplier for PAT certificates and public liability insurance, both of which come with us as standard. Aerial film needs planning rather than a spur-of-the-moment decision — Bruntwood Park sits inside Manchester Airport's wider controlled airspace — but a Gothic hall in 120 acres from above is worth the planning.
We've put together a free wedding pack for couples marrying at Oddfellows, downloadable below. It sizes every option to the rooms here, lays out the prices in full, and carries ODDFELLOWS5 — a venue-exclusive code that takes 5% off anything in it.
