Lea Club at 872 Blackpool Road is one of west Preston's proper member-owned social clubs — a function room with a stage end and bar, weekly live-act star nights, bingo, snooker, darts, Sky sports and its own crown-green bowling green. The function room hires out for birthdays, christenings and family celebrations, and every booking goes back into a club the members own themselves.

We've already brought a party here — a January birthday that ran to nearly four hundred photographs — so we know the room, the stage end and the load-in off Blackpool Road.

The mirror earns its place along the wall clear of the bar and the stage, red carpet leading to it; the compact selfie pod suits afternoon dos; and the audio guest book collects the messages nobody says out loud, with every recording kept. We're practised at working alongside a live turn — the mirror is the second thing to do while the act carries the room.
