Eaves Hall is a Georgian mansion on Moor Lane at West Bradford, just off the A59 and minutes from Clitheroe, standing in thirteen acres of gardens above the Ribble Valley and given over exclusively to one wedding at a time. It is licensed for civil ceremonies in four different places — the Ballroom and the Pendle Room indoors, the Wedding Pavilion out on the lawn and the Veranda at the front of the house — which means the shape of your day can still change on the morning if the weather does. Around 120 sit down and up to 250 are here by the evening, and with thirty bedrooms held for your party plus The Lodge and three cottages, most of them stay the night rather than watching the clock for a taxi.
We know this house. We've brought the magic mirror to weddings at Eaves Hall, so we already know the run up the driveway and how the Ballroom feels once its doors are open to the gardens.
That jump from 120 to 250 is the thing worth planning around, and it is what shapes where we stand. We set the mirror for the room as it will be at nine o'clock rather than as it looks at two: along a wall near the dance floor with the red carpet leading to it, so the queue never crosses the floor. The Ballroom opening straight onto the gardens is the reason the mirror belongs near those doors — from there it covers the dancing and the drift outside in one position. It needs a 10ft by 8ft footprint and one ordinary socket, nothing more. For a smaller or quieter day the selfie pod is the better fit, taking a five-foot square and no red carpet at all.
The Kemple and Pendle Suites are where the morning happens, and that is where a photographer should be from the start — the light in one and the Juliet balcony off the other are worth an hour on their own. The audio guest book, meanwhile, belongs somewhere quieter than the Ballroom, where a vintage telephone on a side table tends to collect the messages that never get said into a microphone. With the bar calling last orders at quarter past midnight and the whole party staying over, those recordings get played back at breakfast the next morning.
The Italianate terraces and the far-reaching valley views give our photographers real range without anyone having to travel — portraits away from the party, groups on the lawn, and thirteen acres of Ribble Valley behind you. West Bradford also sits in open countryside well clear of controlled airspace, which makes aerial film of the house and grounds unusually straightforward here.
We've put together a free wedding pack for couples marrying at Eaves Hall, downloadable below. It sizes every option to the rooms here, lays out the prices in full, and carries EAVESHALL5 — a venue-exclusive code that takes 5% off anything in it.
