The Castle Gardens is an Ember Inns pub on Poulton Road in Carleton, a few minutes from our base in Poulton-le-Fylde. It is one of the closest function spaces to our door, which means an early setup, a late finish or a quick look at the room before you book is never a problem for us.

It is a room-sized celebration space rather than a ballroom. The pub publishes a maximum seated capacity of fifty, and in our experience that is a very good number: nobody queues, everybody gets several goes, and the whole party can see what is happening rather than half the room missing it. They also offer a buffet menu and drinks packages for group bookings, so there is usually already a shape to the day that we can work around.

The events they host are the ones we know best — big birthdays, milestone anniversaries, family get-togethers, Christmas parties, and wakes and celebrations of life, which their own events page names explicitly. For those quieter days we will bring the audio guest book on its own if you would prefer: a vintage telephone on a side table where people leave the family a spoken message. No flashes, no props, nothing that looks like a party, and the family keeps every recording.

For everything else, the full range is available here. The selfie pods need about a five-foot square and a single plug socket, so they will tuck into a corner even once the tables are in. The magic mirror is the showpiece where there is room to give it a proper red-carpet entrance. We also cover event photography by the half day or full day, and drone photography and film — Carleton sits roughly nine kilometres from Blackpool Airport, comfortably outside its zone, so aerial work here is straightforward, subject to the day's airspace notices and the weather.

The pub does not publish details of floor level, access or power positions. So rather than guess, we would agree the load-in with their team and, if it helps, come and look at the space with you first. Their site does mention plenty of free on-site car parking, which makes the unload easy. We are £5M public liability insured, our kit is PAT-tested, and a friendly attendant stays with the mirror all night.
