Aldwinians Rugby Union Football Club sits in Audenshaw Park on Droylsden Road, a short hop off the M60 in Tameside, east Manchester. Founded in 1936 and now a registered charity, it is a proper community clubhouse rather than a commercial events business — and its newly renovated function room has become one of the friendliest celebration spaces in this corner of Greater Manchester.

We were part of two birthday parties in that clubhouse during 2025, one in the August and one in the September. The September night alone produced 726 photographs on the magic mirror, which is about as clear a measure as you can get of how hard a full room here uses it. It is a room that fills, dances and keeps going.

The function room seats over 120 guests with flexible arrangements, and the club calls out its spacious dance floor and its newly updated modern bar — both of which shape where our kit goes. The magic mirror belongs at the dance-floor end, set along a wall with the red carpet leading to it so the queue never crosses the floor. The print selfie pod is the compact alternative for the bar corner, needing barely a five-foot square, and the digital selfie pod suits a conference or a corporate evening where nothing should dominate the room. For milestone birthdays, anniversaries and christenings, the audio guest book sits quietly on a side table away from the speakers and collects what nobody says into a microphone.

Practically, this is an easy venue to work in. The club's own site promises ample parking, so our kit comes straight off the van and in with no loading window to pay for. The entrance is off Droylsden Road, roughly a hundred yards past Kershaw Lane and set between houses, so it is easy to drive past — we allow for that and arrive early. Ahead of every date we confirm the access route, the door we come in by and the nearest power socket with the club steward, who is also the person who confirms your booking on deposit.

Alongside the mirror and the pods we offer event photography by the half or full day and CAA-licensed drone film. Audenshaw sits close to Manchester's controlled airspace, so aerial work here is permission-dependent rather than guaranteed — we ask well before the date, tell you straight what the answer is, and refund the drone element in full if we cannot fly safely and lawfully.
